The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Human Services in Taraba, Zirra Mathias Bubanani, confirmed on Sunday an outbreak of Lassa Fever in the state.
The confirmation came after an NYSC member at Damare orientation camp tested positive for the virus.
The National Reference Laboratory in Abuja conducted tests on a sample from the Corps member, who exhibited symptoms resembling Lassa Fever, as reported by health workers at Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital, Yola.
In response to the outbreak, the state government has urged the public to prioritize good hygiene practices and sanitation. Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary contact and ensure proper storage of leftover food to prevent rat infestation, which can spread the disease.
