Last PDP lawmaker defects to APC in Gombe Assembly

Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has received Yakubu Daniel into the All Progressives Congress following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party.

Daniel, popularly known as Shetiman Bare and representing Billiri East Constituency in the Gombe State House of Assembly, was until his defection the sole PDP lawmaker in the Assembly.

His defection effectively leaves the opposition party without representation in the state legislature, following earlier defections by other opposition lawmakers, including members of the Minority leadership.

Receiving the lawmaker into the APC fold in Gombe, Yahaya described the development as a strong vote of confidence in the leadership and governance style of the ruling party at both state and national levels.

The governor assured the new entrant of fairness, inclusiveness and equal opportunities within the party, noting that the APC remained committed to unity, development, justice and good governance.

He said the growing strength of the APC across constituencies in the state reflected increasing public confidence in the policies and programmes of his administration as well as the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In his remarks, Daniel said his decision to join the APC was influenced by what he described as the people-oriented leadership style of the governor, anchored on transparency, accountability and service delivery across constituencies in the state.

He pledged loyalty to the APC and expressed readiness to contribute to the continued growth of the party in Billiri East Constituency and across Gombe State.

The lawmaker was accompanied to the governor’s office by the Speaker and other members of the Assembly during the defection ceremony.
