Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has declared that he has no preferred candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging aspirants to rely on the support of God and the people.
The governor made this known in a statement issued by his Personal Assistant on Electronic Media, Sharif Sarkinpawa Alhasan, amid reports alleging that he had endorsed a particular aspirant for elective offices.
Fintiri stated that he had not endorsed any aspirant contesting for seats in the State House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate or the governorship race.
He emphasised that aspirants should seek support from God and the electorate, stressing that the power to elect leaders rests solely with the people.
The governor reaffirmed his neutral stance in the unfolding political process and assured that all aspirants would be given a level playing field.
He also noted that the party was considering adopting direct primaries as part of measures to promote inclusiveness and provide equal opportunities for all aspirants.
Fintiri further stressed the importance of conducting rancour-free ward, local government and state congresses, describing them as essential to building unity and credible leadership within the party.
The governor reiterated this position during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House in Yola, which brought together party stakeholders and governorship hopefuls.
He reaffirmed his commitment to fostering unity within the party and pledged to guide its activities through critical phases in a transparent and credible manner ahead of the 2027 elections.
