The Federal Government has released a list of hospitals where Nigerians can access subsidized kidney dialysis, following President Bola Tinubu’s approval of a cost reduction from N50,000 to N12,000 per session.
The subsidy, aimed at easing the financial burden on kidney patients, is available in federal medical institutions across the six geopolitical zones.
The hospitals offering subsidized dialysis include:
1. University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan
2. Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Lagos
3. Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abuja
4. Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi
5. Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Lagos
6. Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri
7. University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), Maiduguri
8. Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta
9. Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Azare
10. University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Benin
11. University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), Calabar
According to the Federal Ministry of Health, the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to improve healthcare affordability for Nigerians, especially those suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD).
A ministry official told NAN that the government is working to ensure the sustainability and effective implementation of the subsidy across all designated hospitals.
Kidney disease remains a major health challenge in Nigeria, with thousands of patients requiring regular dialysis. Experts say that high treatment costs have been a major barrier for many, making the subsidy a crucial intervention.
Beneficiaries are advised to visit the listed hospitals for more information on how to access the subsidized treatment.
