M. T. Monguno Foundation Awards Full Scholarships To Northern Borno Varsity Students

In a bid to alleviate the financial burden on students facing increased university registration fees, Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno, representing Borno North Senatorial District, has awarded fully funded scholarships to 100 students from Northern Borno. The initiative, under the M.T. Monguno Educational Foundation, aims to enhance educational opportunities for the region.

The inaugural ceremony, held at Elkanemi Hall of the Ramat Polytechnic on Saturday, marked the commencement of the first batch of scholarships for students currently enrolled at the University of Maiduguri and Borno State University.

The selection process prioritized academic performance, social status, and gender, with a focus on orphans and the less privileged who were on the verge of discontinuing their education due to financial constraints.

Speaking at the event, Sen. Monguno emphasized the significance of education, stating;

“The only legacy that one can bequeath to humanity is the legacy of Education. As such, I will do everything possible to support the educational development of my people.”

Dignitaries present included Sheikh Ali Gajiram, Prof. Maina Alhaji Gimba, and various academic and political figures. Guest Lecturer Dr. Ali Yaumi highlighted the urgency of advancing education in contemporary times, praising Sen. Monguno for his remarkable contributions to the educational sector.

The beneficiaries expressed gratitude, acknowledging Sen. Monguno’s intervention as a lifeline, preventing many from abandoning their academic pursuits.

The foundation’s commitment to unbiased selection without political or personal considerations was commended.

In a parallel development, Sen. M.T. Monguno inaugurated the pioneer officials of the M.T. Monguno Educational Foundation. Dr. Bashir Alhaji Bukar and Abba Alkali Goni were appointed as Director and Coordinator, respectively.

The non-profit organization aims to transform the educational landscape in Borno North by supporting higher institution students, especially the Girl Child, and promoting the re-enrollment of children in the region.

The event concluded with the submission of registration remittances for beneficiaries and a group photograph capturing the Foundation officials, scholarship recipients, and the visionary behind the initiative, Sen. M.T. Monguno. The Foundation is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the educational future of Northern Borno.
