A cleaner in Maiduguri, Borno State, Mrs. Fa’iza Abdulkadir, has earned national commendation after returning ₦4.8 million mistakenly transferred into her bank account.
Abdulkadir, a single mother of five who earns ₦30,000 monthly, said she returned the money because it did not belong to her and to preserve her peace of mind.
“I received ₦4.8 million into my account mistakenly and I returned it to the owner because it was not my money. I knew I would not have a rest of mind if I had kept it and spent it. Also, I returned it because I want to be blessed with paradise on the day of the hereafter,” she said.
NAN reports that Abdulkadir, who works at a federal health institution in Maiduguri, has been praised by many Nigerians for demonstrating rare honesty in the face of financial hardship.
Following the incident, well-meaning individuals from across the country have reportedly donated to her, with her employers and the institution where she serves considering formal recognition and employment for her.
A Katsina-based lawyer, among other sympathisers, has also indicated plans to reward her exemplary conduct.
Her act of integrity has continued to generate discussions nationwide, with many describing her as a role model and urging that her story be amplified as a lesson in honesty and accountability.
