Maiduguri Varsity Confirms First Female Professor of Veterinary Pathology in Nigeria

Prof. Halima Idrisa Gambo, a board member of Lake Chad Times Newspaper, has become the first female Professor of Veterinary Pathology in Nigeria.

The Senate of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) confirmed her promotion to the rank of Professor on Thursday, marking a milestone in her academic career and in the history of veterinary medicine in the country.

Gambo, who joined the services of UNIMAID in 2004 as an Assistant Lecturer, has spent over two decades in teaching, research, mentorship and community service.

Her elevation to full professor is seen as a testament to her commitment to academic excellence and her groundbreaking contributions to the field of Veterinary Pathology.

Aside from her academic feats, Gambo serves as the National Vice President of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN), Chairperson of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), Borno State Chapter, and Deputy Director of the University of Maiduguri Business School (UMBS).

Colleagues, students and admirers have described her promotion as a trailblazing achievement that will inspire more women to pursue academic careers in veterinary medicine and related sciences.

The Lake Chad Times community, where she sits on the board, also congratulated her on the achievement, describing it as a source of pride and encouragement for the institution.
