The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended a suspect in connection with the abduction and tragic death of 12-year-old Christopher Bala in Magama town, Gumau Local Government Area of the state.
Christopher, the son of Police officer ASP Bala Yarima from Gumau Division, was reportedly taken on March 21, 2024, while running an errand.
The police swiftly responded to a distress call regarding the abduction, launching an immediate operation to apprehend those responsible.
The suspect, identified as Rabi’u Ibrahim, was revealed during initial investigations and later confessed to the crime.
Ibrahim admitted to receiving a ransom of N200,000 from ASP Yarima and confessed to strangling Christopher out of fear of being recognized, burying the young boy in a shallow grave at Bazale village hill.
In a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Ahmed Wakil, it was disclosed that the victim’s remains were unearthed following standard procedures.
A postmortem examination at the General Hospital Toro confirmed that Christopher’s cause of death was strangulation.
The case has now been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough probe, as directed by the state commissioner of police.
