Man Arrested For Alleged Trafficking Of Girl Into Prostitution In Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, Johnson John, of Gwallameji area, for allegedly trafficking a 19-year-old woman, Cecelia Cosmos, into prostitution.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ahmed Wakil, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen in Bauchi on Friday.

Wakil said the suspect lured the victim on April 12 with a promise of a job opportunity in Lagos State.

He said the victim’s mother, Rhoda Cosmos, reported her daughter missing at the ‘E’ Division Police Headquarters on April 19.

According to him, investigations revealed that the victim was handed over to a woman known as “Mama” and later trafficked to Burkina Faso for sexual exploitation.

He said following the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, ordered immediate action, which led to the suspect’s arrest.

“The suspect confessed to his involvement in the trafficking of the victim,” Wakil said.

He added that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The PPRO urged residents to report suspicious movements and activities to security agencies promptly.
