A 35-year-old man, identified as Musa Ibrahim from the Maduganari area of Maiduguri, has been arrested after attempting to unlawfully gain access into the private residence of Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The incident reportedly occurred around 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the Vice President’s residence located in New GRA, Gwange 3 Ward, off Bama Road in Maiduguri, Borno State.
According to security sources cited by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama in a post on X (formerly Twitter), Ibrahim attempted to scale the perimeter fence through the Gadabul River bank situated behind the western side of the compound.
“Upon being spotted by security personnel, Ibrahim attempted to flee the scene but was shot in the leg and subsequently apprehended,” the report stated.
The suspect was immediately taken to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) for medical treatment. Hospital officials have confirmed he is responding to care.
Authorities have handed over the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough probe into the suspect’s motive and possible affiliations.
In response to the security breach, it was gathered that security protocols at the Vice President’s residence have been reviewed and reinforced to forestall any similar attempts in the future.
