No fewer than 5,707 students of Modibbo Adama University (MAU), Yola, graduated at the institution’s combined 29th and 30th Convocation Ceremony as the Adamawa State Government announced plans to construct a five-kilometre internal road network within the campus.
Gov. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri made the disclosure while addressing the convocation ceremony held in Yola.
He said the proposed road project was aimed at easing transportation challenges within the university and improving the learning environment, adding that it formed part of the state government’s commitment to infrastructural development in tertiary institutions.
The governor noted that the project also underscored his administration’s resolve to sustain collaboration with the Federal Government in strengthening the education sector.
The graduands were drawn from the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 academic sessions and were awarded first degrees, master’s degrees and diplomas in various fields.
Fintiri attended the event alongside the Governor of Cross River State, Prince Bassey Edet Otu, and other dignitaries from across the country.
He commended the management of MAU for its academic progress, describing the university as a pride of Adamawa State and assuring continued government support.
Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibrahim Umar, said the university had remained committed to academic excellence and moral development since its establishment in 1981.
He added that the institution conferred honorary doctorate degrees on four eminent Nigerians, including the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; Gov. Otu; Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State; and former Zamfara State Governor, Sen. Abdul’aziz Yari.
The ceremony featured goodwill messages from various speakers who called for sustained investment in education to drive national development.
