Miners in Taraba State, who were recently affected by the prohibition of mining activities in the state, have appealed to Governor Agbu Kefas to lift the ban and allow them to resume their operations.
The appeal was contained in a communiqué issued to journalists on Saturday, following a consultative meeting with mineral title holders and stakeholders organized by the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development.
The miners acknowledged that the Executive Orders Three and Five were made in good faith to address insecurity in the state, but pleaded with the governor to reverse the orders to allow for the resumption of mining activities.
They expressed their willingness to support the state government in obtaining revenue from mining activities by paying stipulated fees and engaging in partnerships to enhance mining operations.
The miners also assured that they would conduct their activities in an environmentally friendly manner and align with laid-down procedures.
They appealed to both the state and federal governments to provide support and incentives to indigenous miners, believing that this would eradicate poverty in communities where minerals are located.
