Fulani leaders under the aegis of Miyetti Allah Dangol Fulako have convened a peace summit in Miri District of Bauchi State to prevent clashes between herders and farmers ahead of the rainy season.
The summit, held on Wednesday, brought together traditional rulers, community leaders, and representatives of the Fulani pastoral community.
The aim was to promote dialogue, mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence between herders and farmers, particularly during the critical farming season.
A special prayer session was held for peace and unity among the diverse communities in the area.
One of the Fulani leaders at the summit said the gathering was a proactive measure to ensure a conflict-free farming season.
“We are here to ensure that this farming season passes without conflict. Our people must understand that peace is the foundation of progress,” he said.
The District Head of Miri, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, commended the organisers of the summit and called for mutual respect between both groups.
He urged farmers to avoid cultivating on designated cattle routes, warning that such actions could provoke unnecessary conflicts.
Usman said he had directed all village and hamlet heads under his jurisdiction to remain neutral and promote fairness in conflict resolution.
Several participants expressed hope that the summit would reduce tensions and foster harmony between farmers and herders in the area.
