The Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) Branch, has lauded the urgent implementation of the 40 per cent salary increment for academic staff, following the final agreement reached between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
In a congratulatory message and union update issued on Friday, the NASU UNIMAID Chairman, Comr. Engr. Musa Liman, described the prompt implementation of the agreement, concluded on January 14, 2026, as a positive step that reflects the impact of sustained union engagement.
Liman congratulated ASUU as a sister-based union on the achievement, while reaffirming NASU’s unwavering commitment to the welfare and rights of non-teaching staff in Nigerian universities.
He reminded members that NASU has continued to engage the Federal Government over several outstanding allowances due to non-teaching staff, noting that efforts are ongoing to ensure all non-teaching staff are fully captured in the new salary increment.
According to him, non-teaching staff have benefited from allowances such as hazard allowance and responsibility allowance for Heads of Departments, Units and Sections since 2020, gains traced to the NASU–Federal Government 2009 agreement.
The NASU chairman added that the 25 to 35 per cent salary increment and the wage award currently enjoyed by members were outcomes of sustained union struggles.
He disclosed that the renegotiation of the NASU 2009 agreement is still ongoing, assuring members that the union remains committed, focused and resolute in ensuring that all its demands are fully addressed.
Liman appealed to NASU members to remain patient and continue to support the union with prayers as negotiations with the Federal Government continue.
“Together we can make a difference. An injury to one is an injury to all,” he said, while praying for the opportunity to fully enjoy the gains of the union’s struggles.
He thanked members for their continued cooperation and solidarity.
