In swift response to the deadly attack on Mandaragrau community in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume has dispatched a high-level delegation and delivered humanitarian aid to victims of the assault.
The attack, allegedly carried out by suspected Boko Haram insurgents, left several residents displaced and traumatized. Once a peaceful agrarian community located a few kilometres from Biu town, Mandaragrau now struggles with destruction, displacement, and loss of lives.
Senator Ndume, who represents Borno South Senatorial District, sent a delegation led by his Senior Legislative Aide, Hon. Usman Aliyu Babandi, to assess the situation and deliver emergency support, including 100 bags of rice to affected families.
In a statement conveyed through his aide, the Senator emphasized the importance of not just sympathizing with victims but providing timely and tangible relief.
“Our people need more than sympathy; they need immediate and concrete support,” he said. “We will continue to push for broader humanitarian intervention through the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, NEMA, the North-East Development Commission, and development partners.”
Senator Ndume also extended financial support to families affected by recent flooding in parts of Biu, offering ₦100,000 each as part of his continued grassroots outreach efforts.
Known for his vocal advocacy on national security and community welfare, Ndume has in recent weeks provided similar interventions to crisis-hit areas in Gwoza, Damboa, and Chibok, reinforcing his commitment to his constituents across Borno South.
Speaking on the deteriorating security around Biu, a town previously considered a safe haven in southern Borno, the Senator expressed concern but also confidence in the community’s resilience.
“I have always cited the people of Izge and Biu as examples of resistance. Their youths do not tolerate insurgents in their midst. I am confident they will overcome this challenge too,” he said.
Local leaders and residents have welcomed the Senator’s timely response, describing it as a much-needed show of solidarity in a time of grief. Many across Borno have praised the Senator’s proactive and compassionate leadership.
