Ndume Sponsors Bill to Establish Institute for Social Media Analysts

Sen. Mohammed Ali Ndume (APC-Borno South) has sponsored a Bill for an Act to establish the Nigerian Institute of Social Media Analysts (NISMA), aimed at empowering Nigerian youths and regulating the social media analysis profession.

The bill, which has passed through the Senate, seeks to create a professional institution responsible for training, certifying, and supporting social media analysts across the country.

Ndume, while presenting the bill on Monday, said the move was part of efforts to harness the digital skills of Nigerian youths, tackle unemployment, and stem the tide of emigration among young professionals.

“Our youths are talented, innovative, and digitally inclined. Sadly, many of them are forced to leave the country in search of platforms that appreciate and support their skills. This institute will change that,” he said.

He said the institute would serve as a catalyst for building local capacity in digital communication, content analysis, online crisis management, and social media ethics.

According to him, the institute will also support national efforts to improve online security, combat misinformation, and promote positive digital citizenship.

The lawmaker expressed optimism that the establishment of NISMA would align Nigeria’s digital economy with global standards while offering structured career pathways for young Nigerians.

The bill has been widely praised as a timely intervention in addressing youth development, digital innovation, and professional regulation in the social media space.
