The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has commenced the reconstruction of a major bridge linking Yobe and Borno States to restore connectivity and improve socio-economic activities in the region.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NEDC, Mohammed G. Alkali, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, noting that the project was part of the Commission’s commitment to rebuilding critical infrastructure in the Northeast.
The bridge, which connects Katarko to Gujba, Gujba to Buni Yadi, and Damaturu in Yobe State to Biu in Borno State, collapsed due to severe flooding, disrupting transportation and livelihoods in the area.
Representing the MD/CEO, the Executive Director of Finance and Administration, Dr. Garba Iliya, visited the site to inspect the construction materials and assess progress. Iliya assured residents of the Commission’s dedication to completing the project using modern engineering techniques to ensure durability and flood resistance.
“This project aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to rebuild damaged infrastructure across the Northeast, particularly in areas affected by flooding and insurgency. We are committed to delivering a resilient structure that will enhance transportation, support economic growth, and improve access to essential services for communities in the region,” Iliya said.
