The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has presented life-saving equipment and drugs to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) and selected hospitals in Borno state.
Engr Mohammed Umar, the Borno State coordinator of the NEDC, presented the items to the hospitals in Maiduguri. He highlighted that the assorted drugs were allocated to 10 selected primary healthcare centers across the state, while the life-saving equipment was designated for UMTH.
The life-saving equipment includes an Automated Nucleic Acid Extracting instrument, Laboratory Incubator, Bio-Safety cabinets, AutoClave, Oxygen Cylinder, Ventilator, and Mobile Thermometer. This vital equipment is poised to bolster the capacity of healthcare facilities in the state.
Umar emphasized that the presentation followed a recent cervical cancer training conducted for personnel from various health facilities across the northeast zone, underlining the commission’s commitment to addressing critical healthcare needs.
Expressing gratitude for the intervention, the Chief Medical Director of UMTH, Prof. Ahmed Ahijo, represented by his aide, Dahiru Hamman, acknowledged the timeliness of the support, considering the substantial number of patients seeking medical care at the hospital.
Dr. Aliyu Shettima, the State Director of Disease Control and Immunization, highlighted the multiple interventions they have received from the commission and assured that the drugs would be utilized effectively to align with the commission’s objectives.
