In a bid to enhance food security and boost agricultural productivity in Gombe State, the North East Development Commission (NEDC) on Friday distributed farming inputs and agrochemicals to the Gombe State Government and the three senators representing Gombe North, Gombe Central, and Gombe South.
Rufa’i Lawan Baba Manu, the Acting State Coordinator of the NEDC in Gombe State, emphasized that the distribution of farming inputs aimed to support dry season farming and align with the presidential initiative to increase food production and ensure food security not only in Gombe State but also in the entire North East region and Nigeria as a whole.
The collaboration between the NEDC, state government, and other stakeholders seeks to directly assist farmers without any obstacles, with a focus on ensuring the proper utilization of the resources provided.
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s administration is expected to oversee the effective utilization of the inputs and agrochemicals for optimal results.
Representatives from the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Animal Husbandry and Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, Senator representing Gombe North, expressed gratitude to the NEDC for the intervention. They highlighted that the initiative would complement the efforts of the state government and senators in promoting food security within the state.
The distribution included essential farming resources such as 2000 litres of liquid fertilizer, 1000 litres of liquid urea, 3000 litres of herbicide, and 500units of water pump machines to support dry season farming activities. Additionally, each senator received 300 litres of liquid NPK fertilizer, 200 litres of urea, 700 litres of herbicide, 100 units of water pump machines, and 50 pieces of cooking pots for further distribution among their constituents.
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Animal Husbandry assured that the inputs would reach genuine farmers, emphasizing the significance of these resources in bolstering agricultural activities, particularly for dry season farmers in Gombe State.
