NELFUND Issues Deadline for Student Data Submission by Institutions Ahead of 2025/2026 Session

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has directed all accredited tertiary institutions in the country to update and upload comprehensive student data ahead of the official opening of its Student Verification Portal for the 2025/2026 academic session.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday and signed by the Director of Strategic Communications, Mr Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, the Fund said the directive is aimed at ensuring a seamless verification and loan application process for eligible students.

The statement noted that institutions are expected to upload the records of both returning and newly admitted students, using each student’s admission number or another unique and verifiable identifier.

“NELFUND recognises the vital role that tertiary institutions play in the success of the Education Loan Scheme and seeks their continued cooperation and partnership in achieving the collective goal of expanding access to higher education for all eligible Nigerian students,” the statement read.

It further explained that only students whose records have been duly uploaded and verified by their institutions will be eligible to apply for and benefit from the student loan scheme.

To this end, NELFUND urged all institutions to commence the upload process without delay and designate responsible officers to oversee the exercise in line with technical guidelines already provided.

“This collaboration is key to ensuring that no eligible student is left behind as the Fund prepares to open its application portal for the new academic session,” Oluwatuyi added.

The student loan initiative, spearheaded by the Federal Government, is designed to provide financial assistance to indigent Nigerian students pursuing tertiary education across the country.
