The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Tuesday welcomed the federal government’s announcement of a pay increase for certain categories of workers in the public service, but has urged that the gesture be extended to all civil servants.
According to Comrade Benson Upah, NLC’s Head of Information and Publicity, the pay rise currently only affects specialized services, which are already considered privileged sectors.
Upah emphasized that the NLC expects the government to extend the pay increase to other categories of civil servants, particularly those in lower cadres who are more vulnerable to the harsh economic conditions in the country.
While acknowledging that the pay rise is a welcomed development, Upah stressed that the margin of increase should be reflective of the current economic situation in Nigeria.
“I am yet to see the details of the statement, but from what I heard, those affected by the pay rise are from the specialised services.
“These categories of workers are already in the privileged sector but we expect it to be extended also to other categories of civil servants who are in lower cadre and are vulnerable.”
The government policy is not benefiting lower class of the Nigerian, they use to prelong taking action on the issues of the lower class problem.
This type of government should change this type of polcy or it shoud be remove.
