Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has reassured residents that terrorists will find no hiding place in the state, despite a recent resurgence of attacks in some communities.
In a statewide broadcast on Thursday, Zulum acknowledged growing concerns over renewed insecurity but maintained that the situation remains under control, with decisive measures already underway to contain the threats.
“The worst days are over. These cowardly elements who seek to disturb our peace will obtain no sanctuary in Borno State,” he said.
The governor attributed the recent spike in attacks to sustained military offensives, which he said had dislodged insurgents from their strongholds, forcing them to infiltrate communities in search of refuge.
He warned residents against aiding or collaborating with such elements, stressing that anyone found providing information, shelter, or logistics to insurgents would face the full weight of the law.
“You are not patriots; you are enemies of the state. You will be hunted down and made to face the full wrath of the law,” Zulum declared.
While expressing sympathy to families of fallen security personnel and affected civilians, the governor called for stronger cooperation between residents and security agencies, noting that community support remains critical in sustaining ongoing operations.
Zulum also urged citizens to remain vigilant, report suspicious movements, and take necessary precautions, particularly as Ramadan draws to a close and Eid celebrations approach.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting military operations through funding, including assistance to the Multinational Joint Task Force, describing the intervention as vital to ongoing successes in the fight against insurgency.
The governor further appreciated Vice President Kashim Shettima for his solidarity with the state following recent incidents.
He also praised the Nigerian Armed Forces, police, and local security groups for their sacrifices, saying their efforts have helped restore relative stability over the years.
On the political front, Zulum cautioned actors against exploiting the current security situation for personal gains, urging unity and prioritisation of peace as political activities intensify.
“As we approach the political season, let us not allow politics to undermine the hard-earned peace we have built,” he said.
He called on residents to intensify prayers for peace and stability, while reiterating his administration’s commitment to ensuring that Borno does not relapse into widespread insurgency.
Zulum urged citizens to remain calm and observe Eid prayers within their communities, assuring them that government would continue to take all necessary steps to protect lives and property.
