Non-Teaching Staff Sweep Seats in UNIMAID Governing Council Election

Two non-teaching staff members have emerged victorious in the online election held Thursday to select Congregation Representatives on the Governing Council of the University of Maiduguri.

Alhaji Isa Alhaji Audu of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Mr. Bulus Yusuf Dalhatu of the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) clinched the two available seats, securing the highest number of votes in a keenly contested poll.

According to official results released by the UNIMAID Portal, Mr. Dalhatu polled 867 votes (21.9%), while Alhaji Audu followed closely with 835 votes (21.1%).

Other candidates in the race included Garba Abdullahi (821 votes, 20.7%), Hamma Adamu Daura (722 votes, 18.2%), Bukar Wakil (396 votes, 10%), and Alkali Mohammed Nur (322 votes, 8.1%).

A total of 3,963 votes were cast in the election, which was conducted electronically to ensure transparency and wider participation.

Reacting to the outcome, members of the university community have extended their congratulations to the winners, praising their long-standing commitment to staff welfare and institutional development.

In a message of felicitation, a senior university official described Alhaji Audu as “a union leader of repute—principled, selfless, and committed to the welfare of members above all else.”

“I am confident that he will bring the same dedication and integrity in representing the entire University Congregation on this important platform,” the official added.

He also commended Mr. Dalhatu on his achievement and expressed optimism that both representatives would make positive contributions to the governance and progress of the institution.

Prayers were offered for wisdom, strength, and fairness in the discharge of their responsibilities.
