North East Governors Meet In Damaturu To Discuss Regional Development, Security

Governors of the six states in the North East geopolitical zone have converged on Damaturu, Yobe State, for the 11th meeting of the North East Governors’ Forum (NEGF), scheduled to hold on Thursday.

The meeting, hosted by Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, brings together governors of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe to deliberate on matters of regional concern, particularly security, economic cooperation, and sustainable development.

A statement from the Gombe State Government House, signed by the Director-General, Press Affairs, Mr. Ismaila Uba Misilli, said the Forum continues to serve as a strategic platform for inter-state collaboration and policy harmonization.

Ahead of the meeting, the Forum’s Technical Committee, comprising Secretaries to the State Governments (SSGs) of the member states, convened in Damaturu to finalize the agenda and technical inputs.

The NEGF was established to foster unity and shared responsibility among the North East states, addressing common challenges such as insurgency, infrastructure deficits, and socio-economic disparities.

The meeting is expected to conclude with a communiqué detailing resolutions and commitments to strengthen regional security architecture, drive economic integration, and improve governance across the zone.
