Governors of the six North-East states have agreed to provide offices for the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education (NCAOOSCE) in their respective states.
This was part of the resolutions reached at the end of the North-East Governors’ Forum meeting held in Damaturu, Yobe, on Thursday.
The communique, read by Gov. Agbu Kefas of Taraba, said the states—Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe—also pledged to support the enrolment of Almajiri and out-of-school children into formal education.
“The forum resolved to work closely with the commission by providing office space in each state. It will also support vocational and technical education, and develop a unified approach to addressing the issue in the region,” Kefas said.
The governors also expressed concern over increased insurgent activities in the sub-region and called for a review of the current counter-insurgency strategies by the military, security agencies, and local communities.
“Addressing the security challenge requires not only military intervention but also tackling the root causes such as youth unemployment, poor infrastructure, lack of education, and poverty,” the forum noted.
The governors reaffirmed their commitment to long-term peace and development through coordinated regional efforts.
They also resolved to support the Nigerian Law School, Yola Campus, by expanding its facilities including hostel accommodation and water supply to boost its capacity.
While commending the Federal Government and the Armed Forces for their efforts in combating Boko Haram insurgency, the governors reiterated their support for regional integration on matters of security, education and economic development.
