Northeast Governors Visit Pakistan to Study Post-Insurgency Management

The Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, along with his Borno and Adamawa state counterparts, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum and Alh. Umaru Fintiri, respectively, have visited Pakistan for a study of the Pakistani experience in post insurgency and disaster management.

The study visit was organized by the Multi-Sectoral Crisis Recovery Project (MCRP), a World Bank project, and coordinated by the North East Development Commission (NEDC) NERSP PMC Cell, is a World Bank-funded initiative supporting recovery and peace-building in the Northeast States of Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe

The tour is aimed at trip deepening understanding of best practices in crisis management, disaster resilience, urban development, and coordination by drawing the Pakistan experiences.

The visit aims to:

1. Understand best practices and solutions relevant to MCRP AF and NEDC/BAY mandates.
2. Strengthen institutional capacity for planning, recovery, and stabilization.
3. Enhance implementation of infrastructure, services, and social cohesion.
4. Improve planning for post-NEDC phases.
5. Increase MDAs’ capacity to design and implement sustainable projects.

Gov. Buni is  accompanied by Yobe State MCRP PC, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment Generation, the Permanent Secretary Liason Services, and Executive Secretary SEMA

The team from the three states visited Punjab Municipal Development Fund Corporation  PMDFC, LGCD, Punjab Planning and Development Board (PnD Board) in Punjab, a city with a population of over 120 million people.

The team is expected to visit
1. Punjab Disaster Management Authority
2. Site Visit PMDFC Municipal services projects
3. Islamabad Disaster Risk Management Portfolio
4. Khyber Project for Rural Investment and Institutional Support
5. Meeting With National Disaster Management Authority
6. Meet UN Agencies amongst other engagements in line with the objectives of the visit.
Similarly, His Excellency Governor Buni will have bilateral discussions with heads of donor organisations and private sectors for resource mobilisation.
