Northern Governors’ Forum Meets, Pledges Support To States Facing Security Challenges

The Northern States Governors’ Forum held its first meeting for 2024 on Tuesday, April 30, at the Council Chamber, Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna.

Led by Chairman and Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the Forum commended the Federal Government’s efforts in combating terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities.

The Forum expressed sympathy and support to states facing security challenges, including Kaduna, Katsina, Niger, Plateau, and Zamfara. It also committed to investing in education, healthcare, and social services to address the region’s development challenges.

Other key resolutions and discussions included:

– Reviewing the New Nigeria Development Company’s report and investing in critical infrastructure to boost the region’s economy.
– Addressing climate change, unsustainable agricultural practices, and population growth through sustainable resource management and environmental conservation.
– Supporting the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) and World Bank Team’s efforts to empower girls’ education.
– Collaborating with the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) to harmonize activities and promote regional interests.
– Working with the Coalition of Northern Group to ensure security in the region.

The Forum commended its leadership, the National Security Adviser, Service Chiefs, and civil society groups for their efforts in promoting peace and stability in the North.
