The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has promoted one of its officers in Adamawa, Abubakar Abdukadir Moyos, for returning N850,000 lost by a pilgrim.
The NSCDC Commander in the state, Mr Idris Bande, disclosed this on Wednesday in Yola during a ceremony in honour of the officer.
Bande said Moyos found a bag on May 16 at the Yola International Airport and returned it after discovering it contained foreign currencies equivalent to N850,000.
“The bag belonged to one Maumuna Salihu, an intending pilgrim from Taraba State who was preparing for airlift to Saudi Arabia for the 2025 Hajj,” he said.
According to him, the bag contained 500 US dollars and 300 Saudi Riyal.
He said the act of honesty by Moyos brought pride to the NSCDC and served as a reminder of the values Nigerians should uphold.
The commander said the Commandant-General of NSCDC, Dr Ahmed Audi, approved the officer’s promotion from Corps Assistant II to Corps Assistant I, effective immediately.
Bande commended the Commandant-General for recognising and rewarding integrity, and urged other officers to emulate the conduct of Moyos.
