NUC Lauds Gombe Govt on Lincoln University Takeoff

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has commended the Gombe State Government for its commitment to ensuring the timely commencement of academic activities at Lincoln University, Kumo.

The Executive Secretary of the NUC, Prof. Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu, gave the commendation during a high-level advocacy visit by Gombe State Deputy Governor, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau, and the Vice Chancellor of Lincoln University Kumo, Prof. Adamu Sadiq Abubakar, to the NUC headquarters on Wednesday in Abuja.

Ribadu said the progress made so far indicated that the university was set to commence academic activities soon, with necessary preparations already in place.

Jatau briefed the NUC on steps taken by the state government to facilitate the takeoff of the institution, including securing land and developing critical infrastructure such as a Senate building, lecture halls, and laboratories.

He said the establishment of Lincoln University Kumo would significantly enhance access to higher education for students in the state and provide more opportunities for those with high scores in the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations but limited admission prospects.

“The university’s medical programmes will also benefit from a partnership with the newly established Federal Medical Centre in Kumo, which will serve as its teaching hospital,” he said.

The deputy governor recalled that the Gombe State Government had entered into a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with Lincoln University of Malaysia to develop learning and research at the institution.

He said the partnership aimed to align the university with global advancements in science and technology, ensuring students acquire competitive skills for the job market.

Jatau also presented a copy of his recently published book, A Sociology for Medical Practice, to the NUC executive secretary.
