Obasanjo, Gov. Yahaya to Commission Ultra-Modern Seed Factory in Gombe

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, are set to commission an ultra-modern seed processing factory on Tuesday at the Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park, Dadinkowa.

The facility, established by Premier Seed Nigeria Limited, is the company’s first in the region and represents a major step toward agricultural transformation in Gombe State and the Northeast at large.

In a statement issued in Gombe on Monday, the company said the plant is equipped with state-of-the-art technology for cleaning, grading, treating, and packaging of certified, high-quality seed varieties that are adapted to climate change.

The facility is expected to improve seed availability for farmers across the region, helping to increase yields and promote resilience to changing weather conditions.

“This seed plant marks a significant investment in agricultural development, aimed at enhancing food security, boosting local seed production, and supporting climate-smart farming,” the statement read.

The project is supported by the UK Government through its Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO)-funded Propcom+ programme, which seeks to catalyze sustainable agricultural growth and climate-smart innovations in Nigeria.

Premier Seed described the initiative as a reflection of effective global-local collaboration to strengthen Nigeria’s agricultural value chain and uplift rural livelihoods.

Dignitaries from across the agricultural and development sectors are expected to attend the commissioning ceremony.
