PAWECA Targets 10,000 in Skills Empowerment Drive

The Adamawa State Poverty Alleviation and Wealth Creation Agency (PAWECA), led by Dr. Michael Zira, has launched a monitoring and evaluation exercise across state-run technical and vocational training centers. The initiative is part of efforts to empower women and youth with skills for self-reliance, in line with Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s poverty alleviation agenda.

The exercise aims to assess the condition of training facilities, manpower, and learning materials while identifying areas for improvement to ensure effective skill acquisition programs.

The initiative is projected to train over 6,000 participants in its pilot phase, with a long-term goal of empowering more than 10,000 women and youth across Adamawa State. Training programs are tailored to meet labor market demands and include a wide range of vocational courses.

At the Fufore Technical Training Center, participants can learn carpentry, tailoring, and concrete and steel work, while the Yola Technical Training Center offers specialized courses such as electronics, renewable energy, air conditioning repair, mechanics, automobile repair, plumbing, welding, catering, and tailoring.

Dr. Zira highlighted the importance of the initiative in fostering entrepreneurship and reducing dependency through practical skill acquisition. “This program is not only a step toward poverty alleviation but also a significant contributor to economic development in Adamawa State,” he said.

The program forms a critical component of the Fintiri administration’s eight-point agenda, which prioritizes job creation and economic empowerment. PAWECA has urged residents to seize the opportunity to gain valuable vocational skills that will enhance their livelihoods and promote self-reliance.

Through consistent monitoring and evaluation, the agency ensures that the centers are well-equipped and prepared to deliver quality training. This reflects the government’s commitment to building a skilled and empowered population, paving the way for sustainable development in Adamawa State.
