The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for reconciliation among party stakeholders following the recent Court of Appeal judgment that invalidated its 2025 national convention.
The Chairman of the Board, Adolphus Wabara, disclosed this while presenting a communiqué at the end of an expanded emergency meeting of the board held on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Wabara said the meeting deliberated on issues surrounding the leadership of the party, particularly the March 9 judgment of the Court of Appeal which nullified the Nov. 15–16, 2025 national convention that produced the National Working Committee led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki.
According to him, the board disagrees with the ruling and is awaiting legal advice from its lawyers on the next course of action.
The BoT expressed concern over what it described as avoidable internal leadership disputes and litigations within the party, noting that the situation had negatively affected unity and smooth running of the PDP as a major opposition party.
However, the board said it would explore the window provided by the Ibadan Division of the Court of Appeal to facilitate reconciliation among party members.
It also acknowledged the growing interest of party members preparing to contest various elective positions in the 2027 general elections.
The BoT said it was conscious of its role as the conscience and the third highest leadership organ of the party and therefore resolved to take immediate steps to reconcile stakeholders, end disputes and restore stability within the party.
To achieve this, the board constituted a special committee to engage with the party’s legal teams and other stakeholders to promote reconciliation.
The communiqué further noted that the PDP continued to enjoy support from Nigerians, citing reports of increasing participation in the ongoing nationwide electronic registration of members.
According to the board, the surge in membership registration across the country reflects public confidence in the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The BoT therefore urged party leaders and members to set aside personal and group interests and unite in the overall interest of the party and the wellbeing of Nigerians.
The board also commended the efforts of Bala Mohammed, Governor of Bauchi State, and Seyi Makinde, Governor of Oyo State, for their commitment to the party and their support for national development.
In addition, the BoT approved the appointment of former Niger State governor, Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, as Secretary of the board in line with Section 32 of the party’s constitution as amended in 2017.
The board urged Nigerians to remain hopeful, assuring that the PDP was working to reposition itself to provide effective leadership and rescue the country from the control of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
