PDP Governors’ Forum Meets in Taraba, Issues Communique

The PDP Governors’ Forum held its annual meeting in Jalingo, Taraba State, on August 23, 2024, chaired by Senator Bala Mohammed, Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Bauchi State.

The meeting discussed critical intra-party and national issues, including the recent #EndBadGovernance protests, economic and social policies, political deadlock in Rivers State, upcoming governorship election in Edo State, and revenue allocation.

The governors expressed relief at the end of the protests, praised PDP governors for managing the situation maturely, and urged the Federal Government to ensure a fair and swift trial for those arrested.

They criticized the Federal Government for not addressing economic and social policies beneficial to the people, resorting to blame games instead, and urged the President to show leadership and stand with the suffering masses.

The Forum reaffirmed support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State and called on the PDP National Working Committee to correct the situation, allowing the Governor to assume his rightful leadership position.

They condemned alleged attempts by the President to influence the Edo State governorship election and criticized the systematic intimidation of PDP supporters by the police, calling on the Inspector General of Police to ensure impartiality.

The governors raised concerns about the Federal Government’s failure to distinguish between federal and national revenues, insisting on revenue allocation according to the law, and called for greater transparency from the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Accountant General of the Federation.

Lastly, the Forum praised Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State for his hospitality and efforts in delivering democratic dividends to the people, aligning with the PDP’s governance philosophy.
