The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) has reaffirmed its commitment to the November 15 National Convention of the party and vowed to resist any attempts to derail the process.
The governors made the resolution in a communiqué issued at the end of their 7th meeting for 2025, held on Saturday at Government House, Gusau, Zamfara State.
The meeting, chaired by Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, deliberated extensively on the state of the nation, security concerns, erosion of democratic values, and efforts to reposition the PDP.
The Forum expressed gratitude to party members and supporters nationwide for what it described as steadfast loyalty in the face of intimidation and anti-democratic actions allegedly perpetrated by the APC-led Federal Government during the last bye-election.
It commended PDP leaders and members for their resilience in overcoming orchestrated defections, noting that the party’s grassroots strength and public support remain intact.
The governors said the PDP remains the only democratic institution capable of restoring good governance, inclusiveness, and national development.
On insecurity, the Forum commended Zamfara State Government’s efforts in addressing security challenges, while condemning the “monstrous killings” in Katsina, Plateau, Niger, and Benue States. It urged the Federal Government to be more responsive in protecting lives and property.
The Forum also condemned what it described as over-militarization, irregularities, vote buying, and violence in the August 9 bye-elections, calling on Nigerians to protect their votes.
The governors expressed appreciation to the Government and people of Zamfara State for hosting the meeting and lauded Gov. Dauda Lawal for achievements in infrastructure, health, education, and security.
They also commiserated with the people of Zamfara over the death of the Emir of Gusau and with Oyo State over the loss of traditional rulers.
Governors in attendance included Mohammed (Bauchi), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Douye Diri (Bayelsa), and Ademola Adeleke (Osun).
