PDP Group Urges Amaechi, Obi to Return, Backs Bala Mohammed’s Leadership

A pro-Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) group, Bala Agents’ Mandate, has called on former Rivers State Governor, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, and former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, to return to the PDP and support Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State in rebuilding the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Coordinator of the group, Mr Amadi Chijioke, said the country’s democratic development would be better served by consolidating opposition efforts under the PDP rather than forming a new political coalition.

“I strongly believe in the leadership of Governor Bala Mohammed to reposition the PDP. There is no need to form another coalition. The likes of Peter Obi and Rotimi Amaechi should return to their political home and join forces with Bala Mohammed to strengthen the PDP,” he said.

Chijioke expressed concerns that efforts to create a new opposition platform could dilute the strength of the fight for good governance and the restoration of democratic norms in the country.

Also speaking, the National Coordinator of the group, Mr Habib Musa, described the PDP Governors’ Forum led by Governor Mohammed as the most credible pillar holding the party together amid current political instability.

He faulted the recent defections of the Governors of Delta and Akwa Ibom States to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing them as “acts driven by fear and opportunism, not by principle.”

“The PDP remains a formidable political force. We assure the people of Delta and Akwa Ibom that we will reclaim those states through democratic means,” he said.

Musa further criticized recent actions by the federal government, including what he termed the suspension of democratic institutions in Rivers State and alleged attempts to shut down the PDP national secretariat in Abuja.

He accused the federal authorities of using state power to intimidate opposition voices and erode democratic gains.

In a direct appeal, Musa called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, to work with Governor Mohammed in the interest of party unity, despite his current affiliation with the APC-led federal government.

Marking Nigeria’s 26 years of uninterrupted democracy, the group urged all political actors to recommit themselves to democratic principles and responsible governance.
