The National Pension Commission (PenCom), in collaboration with Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs), will on Feb. 1 deploy an online self-service platform to enable Retirement Savings Account (RSA) holders update their personal data remotely.
PenCom disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, saying the application, known as the Data Recapture Self-Service Platform (PENCAP), is designed to allow contributors recapture their records without physically visiting PFA offices.
According to the commission, the platform targets RSA holders who joined the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) on or before July 1, 2019 and are yet to complete the data recapture exercise.
PenCom explained that the initiative is part of its drive to strengthen data integrity, improve service delivery and modernise pension administration through responsible digitalisation.
It noted that inaccurate and incomplete legacy records had, over time, created challenges during verification and benefit processing, stressing that PENCAP provides a secure and convenient solution to improve the quality and reliability of contributor data across PFAs.
“The platform will support faster benefit processing, smoother verification exercises and an overall improvement in service experience for RSA holders,” the commission said.
PenCom recalled that the direct data recapture exercise commenced in August 2019 for both active contributors and retirees but recorded limited success due to the requirement for physical visits to PFA offices.
The commission said the exercise aligns with the Federal Government’s directive for data-generating agencies to harmonise their databases with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), using the National Identification Number (NIN) as a unique identifier.
It added that the Enhanced Contributor Registration System (ECRS), integrated with the NIMC database, was deployed to authenticate individuals registering under the CPS and existing RSA holders yet to recapture their data.
PenCom said the new platform is fully online and requires a smartphone, computer or similar device with a camera and internet access for live image capture.
RSA holders are to access the portal via https://pensionrecap.pencom.gov.ng/, create a secure profile using a personal email address, complete the online form and upload relevant supporting documents where required.
The process also involves biometric verification through live facial capture and a digital signature, after which the contributor’s PFA will review the application within a defined processing period.
PenCom assured that contributors would receive email notifications at each stage, including approval or rejection, to ensure transparency and continuous communication.
The commission said completion of the data recapture exercise is mandatory for participation in the Retiree Enrolment and Verification Exercise and for accessing key pension transactions.
These include processing of retirement benefits, use of RSA balances for residential mortgage equity, withdrawal due to temporary job loss and transfer of RSAs between PFAs.
PenCom warned that eligible RSA holders who fail to complete the exercise would be unable to access such services.
It, however, noted that contributors who prefer physical recapture may still visit PFA offices, as the self-service platform is meant to complement existing service channels.
