Police Arrest Peace Corps Officer for Threatening Suicide Over Allowance Withdrawal In Adamawa

Adamawa State Police Command has nabbed the Chief Intelligence Officer (CIO) of Peace Corps, Adamawa State Command, Zayyad El-Muhammad, for threatening to commit suicide over withdrawal of his N20,000 monthly allowances.

The Spokesman of the Police Command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, made this known while interrogating the accused who admitted having attempted to kill self.

SP Nguroje, explained that on the 22nd June, 2024, the police command received a complainant that the CIO Zayyad El-Muhammad, threatened to hang self over withdrawal of monthly allowances by his superior officers.

SP Ngurore, said that the CIO wrote on social media that Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, through the Ministry of Education has been supporting the organisation financially but that their top officers have been diverting the money.

He said that the suspect had alleged that the top officers of the organisation have been using the allowances being given to the organisation by Governor Fintiri in enriching themselves at the detriment of the organisation.

He said that the officers have denied them their allowances including their men at the LGAs for about 4 years, and assured that he will try and see the Commissioner of Education or that of the Police Command in Adamawa State respectively and failure to see them, he will certainly hang himself at the Damilu Roundabout.

The Image Maker said that immediately after receiving the complainant, the Commissioner of Police, CP Morris Dankombo, deployed men of the command who apprehended him as well as denied him perpetrating the heinous crime.

SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, vowed that the command will not in anyway allow anybody to take his or her own life because it is a very serious crime, assuring that the suspect will be charged to court over alleged attempt to commit suicide.
