Police Arrest Suspected Motorcycle Thieves, Phone Snatchers In Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command apprehended two individuals, Suleiman Habibu, 25, and Atiku Mohammed, 30, on allegations of phone theft and attempting to bribe a police officer to escape arrest.

The arrest took place during a routine patrol behind the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium. The suspects, residents of the Jahun area in Bauchi metropolis, were subsequently handed over to detectives at the ‘C’ Divisional Police Headquarters for further investigation.

According to the Command’s spokesman, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, preliminary findings indicate that the duo had stolen nine mobile phones from various locations in Gombe State. Additionally, the suspects were found in possession of dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp. They attempted to compromise the investigation by offering a bribe of seventy-eight thousand Naira (N78,000), which was rejected by the diligent investigating officer.

In a separate incident on February 8, 2024, the police responded to a distress call reporting a stabbing and theft of a motorcycle along Ningi Road, Bauchi. The victim was promptly taken to Specialist Hospital Bauchi for treatment and later discharged.

Following a thorough investigation and intelligence gathering, the police arrested Abdullahi Mohammed, a resident of Bayan Banki in Mangu LGA of Plateau State, within an hour. The stolen motorcycle was successfully recovered, and the suspect confessed to the crime. Legal charges will be pursued upon the completion of the investigation.
