The Taraba State Police Command has dismissed a viral video alleging a planned terrorist attack in parts of the state, assuring residents that there is no cause for panic.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, ASP Victor Mshelizah, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Jalingo.
Mshelizah described the video circulating on social media as false and fabricated, noting that it was intended to create fear and disrupt public peace.
The video had claimed that attacks would occur on March 23, 2026, in Takum and Donga Local Government Areas, causing tension and forcing some residents to flee their homes.
He said the command was aware of the video and had taken proactive steps in collaboration with other security agencies to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin, has ordered the deployment of operational and intelligence-driven security measures across the state.
“The command has strategically positioned security operatives in critical areas to safeguard lives and property.
“Residents, especially those in Takum and Donga, are advised to go about their lawful activities without fear,” he said.
Mshelizah warned against the spread of unverified information capable of causing panic, urging the public to rely only on official sources for credible information.
He also called on residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or activities to security agencies for prompt response.
The police reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and security across Taraba State.
