
The Borno State Police Command has deployed its Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit following a suspected explosion at the Al-Adum Jumaat Mosque, located within the Gamboru Market area of Maiduguri.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Borno State Command, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso Anipr, FCAI, the incident occurred at about 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 24, 2025, while worshippers were observing prayers. Upon receiving the report, police EOD operatives were immediately mobilised to the scene to carry out sweeping and safety operations.
The Police Command said the affected area was promptly cordoned off to ensure public safety, while security personnel intensified checks and commenced investigations to ascertain the cause and nature of the suspected explosion.
The Police urged residents and business operators around Gamboru Market to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperate with operatives on ground as the operation continues.
The Borno State Police Command assured members of the public that it is in full control of the situation and that further information will be communicated as investigations progress.
