Police Foil Attempted Theft of Bauchi Emirate Council Hilux, Arrest Suspect

The Bauchi State Police Command has thwarted an attempted vehicle theft within Bauchi metropolis, recovering a Toyota Hilux belonging to the Bauchi Emirate Council and arresting a suspect in the process.

According to a press release issued on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, the incident occurred on January 5, 2025, at about 6:30 a.m. when a member of the Bauchi Emirate Council, Buhari Musa Umar, reported the theft to a police patrol team stationed at the Jos Road roundabout.

Police said the vehicle was parked at Inkiya Filling Station while the driver briefly stepped away. The driver, who was reportedly on an official assignment to Ganjuwa Local Government Area to deliver messages from the Emir, explained that an unknown individual took advantage of his absence and drove away with the Toyota Hilux to an unknown destination.

Upon receiving the report, the patrol team immediately launched a pursuit. The stolen vehicle was later recovered around the Bayan Gari area of Bauchi metropolis, where the suspect was also apprehended.

The Command disclosed that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to committing the offence. Investigation is ongoing, after which the suspect will be properly profiled and charged to court.
