The Yobe State Police Command has launched a manhunt for an 18-year-old woman, Khadija Jamilu, over an alleged attack on her husband during a domestic dispute in Potiskum Local Government Area of the state.
The incident was reported to have occurred in the early hours of Friday, prompting a distress call to the Potiskum Divisional Police Headquarters.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, said police operatives responded to the report at about 3:00 a.m. and discovered that the 25-year-old husband had sustained serious injuries during the altercation.
According to him, the victim was immediately rushed to the State Specialist Hospital, Potiskum, for emergency treatment before being referred to the Federal Medical Centre, Azare, in Bauchi State, where he is currently receiving medical care.
Abdulkarim said the suspect fled the scene after the incident, adding that efforts were ongoing to apprehend her and ensure a thorough investigation of the matter.
“Investigation into the case is ongoing, while efforts are in top gear to arrest the fleeing suspect,” he said.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Emmanuel Ado, cautioned against violence in marital relationships, stressing that marriage should be built on mutual respect, patience, and understanding.
He advised couples and intending spouses to seek proper counselling, embrace peaceful dialogue during disagreements, and involve family members, religious leaders, or other trusted mediators when conflicts escalate.
The police also urged community leaders and relevant stakeholders to intensify awareness campaigns among youths on healthy relationships, conflict resolution, and the dangers of domestic violence.
