A police inspector, whose identity has been withheld, has reportedly taken his own life in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.
The deceased officer was stationed at the Gwange Divisional of the Borno Police Command. According to sources within the community, the inspector appeared to be in good health when he was last seen three days prior to the incident.
The circumstances surrounding the officer’s decision to end his life remain unclear. Concerns arose on Saturday morning when residents of Layin Bayan, Wulari Jerusalem area of Maiduguri noticed a strange odor emanating from the inspector’s locked apartment.
Upon receiving the distress call, officers from the Metro and Gwange Divisions of the Borno Police Command were dispatched to the scene. Upon forcibly entering the apartment, they discovered the lifeless body of the inspector in his bedroom.
An anonymous source within the compound shared, “It was early this morning that people in the compound observed a strange odor emanating from his apartment; his door was shut from behind.
The men of police from Metro and Gwange Divisions respectively came to break the door and his lifeless body was found on the floor of his bedroom. They are currently in the compound.”
At the time of reporting, the police authorities had not released an official statement regarding the incident. Daily Trust attempted to reach the Police Public Relations Officer in Borno, ASP Kenneth Daso, for comment, but calls went unanswered.
