Police Launch Investigation Into Customs-Related Stray Bullet Death in Mubi

The Adamawa State Police Command has commenced a thorough investigation into a tragic stray bullet incident involving personnel of the Nigeria Customs Service, which led to the death of one Ibrahim Usman, aged 35, in Mubi South Local Government Area.

The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday, 16th July, 2025, at about 1600hrs, when a patrol team of the Nigeria Customs Service was operating in the area. A stray bullet allegedly fired by the operatives struck Usman, a resident of Mujara, Mubi South.

Following a distress call, officers from the ADSU Gude Divisional Police Headquarters, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), swiftly responded to the scene. The victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Mubi, where he was later confirmed dead.

Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, CP Dankombo Morris, PSC (+), has since informed the appropriate authorities of the Nigeria Customs Service and directed operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to carry out a discreet and impartial probe into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, ANIPR, assured the public of the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice is served.

“The Command assures members of the public that justice will be served, and the outcome of the investigation will be communicated in due course,” the statement read.
