Police Rescue Four Children Stolen from Bauchi in Anambra State

The Anambra State Police Command has rescued four children allegedly abducted from Bauchi State and sold to a family in Anambra.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Obono Itam, disclosed this during a press briefing at the police headquarters in Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area on Monday.

Itam said four suspects, including an illegal foster mother, had been arrested in connection with the crime.

“The suspects have confessed to their involvement and detailed the roles they played in the abduction and sale of the children.

“One of the children has already been identified, and efforts are ongoing to reunite the others with their families,” he said.

The CP added that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, dismantled a criminal camp in Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area, on Dec. 24, 2024.

He said the operation, which was based on credible intelligence, led to the recovery of 19 unexploded improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and the destruction of several makeshift structures used by the criminals.

According to him, the operation inflicted significant injuries on fleeing suspects who are currently being tracked.

In another development, Itam said that police operatives attached to the Special Anti-Cultism Squad in Enugu-Ukwu arrested an 18-year-old suspect, Miracle Mwakalor, on Dec. 6, 2024.

“The suspect, who is from Umubele Village in Awka South Local Government Area, was arrested following credible information about a planned attack in Nibo.

“During the operation, the police recovered an AK-47 rifle and a magazine hidden in an apartment in Ubuofu, Awka,” he said.

Itam said the suspect confessed to the crime and provided leads on the activities of his gang.

The commissioner also paraded 13 other suspects involved in various crimes, including murder and kidnapping, as part of the command’s achievements in 2024.

He reassured the public of the police’s commitment to maintaining security and urged citizens to provide timely information to aid crime prevention.
