The Taraba State Police Command, in collaboration with the military and local hunters, has successfully rescued an Israeli national, Mr. Gil Itamar, who was abducted by armed men in the Atim Community along the Takum/Chanchangi Road.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. James Lashen, the command received a distress call on April 3, 2025, at about 10:30 a.m. from one Alhaji Saidu, a staff member of SCC company, regarding the abduction of Mr. Itamar, also a staff member of the same company.
Lashen stated that the DPO of Takum Division promptly mobilised personnel from the division, the 67 Police Mobile Force (PMF), the Nigerian Army, and local hunters to launch a coordinated rescue operation.
The operatives reportedly engaged the abductors in a fierce gun duel during a search-and-rescue mission, leading to the eventual rescue of the victim in the Kofai Ahmadu area, forcing the criminals to flee the scene.
Mr. Itamar is currently receiving medical attention at the SCC company’s medical facility in Takum.
The Commissioner of Police in Taraba State, Mr. Bretet Emmanuel, commended the swift action and bravery of the security operatives involved in the operation. He also reiterated the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
He warned criminal elements to desist from their activities or relocate, as the police will intensify efforts to ensure the state remains unsafe for criminal activities.
