The Borno State Police Command has urged residents to remain vigilant following reported explosions near the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and the Monday Market area in Maiduguri on Monday evening.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Nahum Daso, made the call while reacting to reports of the incidents in the Borno State capital.
He advised residents to stay calm but vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious movements or objects to security agencies.
Residents said the first explosion occurred at the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, causing panic among people in the area.
Shortly after, another explosion was reported around the Monday Market area, one of the busiest commercial centres in Maiduguri.
Eyewitnesses said the blasts forced traders, motorists and passers-by to flee the scenes for safety.
As of the time of filing this report, the number of casualties and the extent of damage had not been officially confirmed.
The police said further details on the incidents would be communicated to the public as investigations continue.
