The Bauchi State Police Command has pledged to arrest and prosecute those behind the killing of a widow, Mrs. Salome Benjamin, whose body was discovered on her farm in Kafin Tafawa, a community within Bauchi metropolis.
Police spokesman, SP Mohammed Wakil, who confirmed the incident on Wednesday, described the murder as a “dastardly act” that has left residents in shock.
He said operatives responded promptly to a distress call, visited the scene, and evacuated the remains of the deceased to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi.
“A post-mortem examination will be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of death. From what we observed, there were signs of struggle on her neck, suggesting strangulation. There were no machete cuts or gunshot wounds on her body,” Wakil said.
He disclosed that detectives had revisited the crime scene multiple times in search of evidence but were yet to make a breakthrough.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani Omolori Aliyu, has ordered a discreet investigation, assuring that the perpetrators would be apprehended.
“The killers of this innocent woman cannot escape justice. We are determined to ensure they are tracked down and prosecuted,” Wakil vowed.
The deceased’s son, Simeon, told reporters that his mother left for the farm around 8 a.m. on Saturday but never returned.
“Later in the day, we became worried. Family members and some farmers went in search of her and eventually found her body naked on the farm,” he recounted.
The incident has thrown Kafin Tafawa community into mourning, with residents calling on security agencies to intensify efforts to fish out the culprits.
