PSC, Stakeholders Meet on Recruitment of 50,000 Police Officers

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has held a strategic stakeholders meeting with the Nigeria Police Force, the Ministry of Police Affairs and the Federal Character Commission to fine-tune arrangements for the recruitment of 50,000 police officers into the Nigeria Police Force.

The meeting, held at the PSC headquarters in Abuja, focused on ensuring a seamless and credible recruitment exercise anchored on transparency, fairness and merit.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the PSC, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd), who was represented by DIG (Dr.) Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), said the Commission is committed to an open and inclusive process that will strengthen the capacity and diversity of the Police. Lakanu, who chairs the PSC Standing Committee on Police Force Matters, noted that the recruitment will be conducted in line with established standards and statutory guidelines.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Police Affairs, Dr. Anuma Ogbonnaya, who led the Ministry’s delegation, pledged continued collaboration, expressing confidence that the partnership would enhance the credibility of the exercise.

NAN reports that the meeting resolved to strictly comply with Federal Character principles to ensure equitable representation across all states and geopolitical zones. It also agreed to promote gender inclusivity, with measures to encourage the participation of qualified female applicants.

The PSC further announced that the recruitment will be driven by technology, publicly accessible and protected from undue interference.

The agencies affirmed their readiness to work together to safeguard the integrity of the process and deliver a recruitment exercise that meets national expectations.

The Commission assured prospective applicants and the public that details and timelines for the recruitment will be announced in due course.
