The Joint Associations of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Adamawa State have commended the wife of the state governor, Hajiya Lami Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, for her sustained interventions and support to their members.
The group, which comprises individuals from various disability clusters, including the physically challenged, lepers, spinal cord injury, albinism, intellectual disabilities, blind, and deaf, expressed their appreciation following the emergence of new leadership within the association.
Speaking to newsmen on Friday at the association’s headquarters in Yola, Mr. Jibrin Adamu Amzaranda, Northeast Zonal Coordinator of the Blind Association, lauded the First Lady for her continued commitment to improving their welfare.
He listed some of her interventions, including the distribution of 20 mobility machines, 20 sewing machines, 20 grinding machines, and 20 refrigerators to various clusters across the state.
Adamu also noted that the First Lady had provided financial support to enable members to expand their small businesses, and appealed to her to assist qualified members in securing government jobs.
“Our mother, the First Lady of Adamawa State, has been a source of hope for us. She consistently includes us in her programs, and we are proud of her efforts,” he said.
Similarly, Mr. John Anthony, Assistant Secretary of the association, highlighted the First Lady’s recent donation of food items to more than 2,000 students of the Special Education School in Jada.
He described the gesture as unprecedented, noting that many members had directly benefitted from her initiatives.
“The mobility machine I use today was donated by Her Excellency. She has always been there for us since the beginning of this administration,” Anthony said.
While expressing gratitude, the association appealed for additional interventions, citing the need for expanded support due to the increasing number of persons with disabilities in the state.
